My mother’s name was Elsie. She was born in Rome, New York and later lived with her husband and family in Rome, Pittsburgh, Babylon and Charlotte. They lived in Charlotte the longest and it was her favorite. She was a gentle, lovely woman with a wonderful sense of humor who set an example for her children by always demonstrating kindness and respect, along with grace, to others.

When seeing one of her six children being rude to an attendant at a gas station in Charlotte, she said:

“The world doesn’t owe you a living so you can at least pay your way in politeness!”
